“Koilorido” (”Koilored”) – Oil pastels on paper – 1994 (age 20) by Gustavo R. Olmedo
As a teenager, I got into the hobby of fish tanks and breeding fish. I had exotic fish of all types and several fish tanks of different sizes, both in freshwater and saltwater – a hobby that I maintained for about 7 years.
I always wanted to have a pond with koi fish in the backyard, but that was never possible. I would often daydream about my own koi pond of my own design, and imagined my own koi fish swimming in it.
One day, I decided to make some art from my imagination, and did this drawing with oil pastels, from my mind (it did not exist anywhere, and I was not looking at anything). This was also about the second time I ever used oil pastels. I did this one month after turning 20, just for fun.
